12/7/2009 - Fordham University Press to Publish Web-Based Catalogs via Edelweiss Interactive Publisher Catalogs

Ann Arbor, MI – December 7, 2009 – Above the Treeline is pleased to announce that Fordham University Press has selected Edelweiss, Above the Treeline’s interactive publisher catalog system, to publish its frontlist and backlist catalogs on the web.  With the addition Fordham’s roughly 100 frontlist titles, Edelweiss’ web-based publisher catalogs will encompass more than 37,000 titles across 700 imprints from more than 20 publishers.  Fordham University Press joins university presses from Georgetown University, Columbia University, and Cambridge University in using Edelweiss to promote and market its titles electronically.

Retailers, librarians, publicists, and other end users of publisher catalogs will be able to review Fordham’s Spring 2010 titles via Edelweiss in late December, 2009.

"As Fordham University Press expands it efforts in e-marketing and e-publishing we felt it made perfect sense to partner with Edelweiss to create a digital catalog,” said Fredric Nachbaur, Director of Fordham University Press. “With more and more retailers preferring to have books individualized for their market, we thought it was the perfect time to join the growing list of publishers making the electronic plunge. We are excited about the new and innovative ways our books can be presented and sold."

“We’re proud and excited that Fordham University Press chose Edelweiss as its digital catalog solution.  University presses play an important role in America’s publishing tradition, and we feel they will be a growing and important part of the Edelweiss service,” said Above the Treeline CEO John Rubin.

Fordham University Press, a member of the Association of American University Presses (AAUP) since 1938, was established in 1907 not only to represent and uphold the values and traditions of the University itself, but also to further those values and traditions through the dissemination of scholarly research and ideas.

The press publishes primarily in the humanities and the social sciences, with an emphasis on the fields of anthropology, philosophy, theology, history, classics, communications, economics, sociology, business, political science, and law, as well as literature and the fine arts. Additionally, the press publishes books focusing on the metropolitan New York region and books of interest to the general public.

Above the Treeline is North America’s leading provider of collaboration-based business intelligence for the book industry.  Their newest tool, Edelweiss, is an on-line interactive publisher catalog service that enhances or replaces the use of traditional hard copy publisher catalogs.  With features such as keyword search, interior images, twitter and blog tracking, title tags, and others, Edelweiss goes far beyond simple posted PDF’s to provide a buying and research tool that cannot be matched with hard copy catalogs.  Edelweiss is free to retailers and other catalog readers, requires no prior Above the Treeline affiliation, and interfaces with most bookstore POS systems.
