Edelweiss Weekly Update – Tuesday, August 18, 2009
We offer free Webex-based demo’s twice per week for Retailers and other Catalog Readers. “Reply” to me if you want more info on how to sign up. Publisher reps: we can also work with you to schedule training. Just let us know.
NEW FEATURES
Send title information directly in emails: We’ve added the ability for all users to email a selected list of titles from the List View under the ‘Actions’ dropdown menu. Using this feature, you can ‘check’ titles in the List View to send, enter in as many email addresses as you want and type a message for the email recipient(s). The recipient(s) will receive a modified version of the List View directly in their email (i.e. no need to go to a web browser), complete with the jacket cover, bibliographic information, enhanced content, notes/suggestions/tags and links to the site. The email also looks nice when printed. For reps, you could use this to send all titles in a mailing or highlight certain titles. For retailers, you could tag titles for selected recipients and use this to send a list of all similarly tagged titles to…
- Others in your organization (events coordinators, frontline booksellers, etc.)
- Reps for requests (galleys, comp titles, events, etc.)
- Customers (recommendations!)
Publisher branding: We’ve added the ability for catalog administrators within the publishing houses to upload an image and/or text to replace the ‘Edelweiss’ logo that appears on the top left hand corner of the List View and Title Detail pages. If you are an administrator and interested in this, please email Dave at dave@abovethetreeline.com for more information. An example is below…

TIP OF THE WEEK – For Sales Reps
Okay, so this is actually a couple of tips as opposed to just one, but some things that might be helpful as you create catalog mailings for your accounts…
Comp titles
- Comp titles added by other reps to titles on your mailing will appear on the Community Comps tab; you may selectively add these to a mailing even after you've sent it to your account.
- If there are obvious comp titles that should be attached to the title for all accounts (e.g. the previous edition of the same title or the last book in a series), ask your catalog administrator to add it to the title within the master catalog. You then won’t have to manually add it to each of your mailings. It will appear as a “Publisher” add.
Mailing templates
- You are welcome to register as a catalog ‘reader’ from the Edelweiss home page if you’d like. You can then add yourself as a recipient to receive a mailing, use your personal account as your mailing ‘template’ and see what it looks like from the account perspective. Alternatively, feel free to use Ruth or Jen at the Treeline Test Store to create a Master mailing which you can use to mark up and then copy to other mailings destined for your real accounts. Note that you are essentially taking a snapshot of your original mailing when you use it to copy markups to another mailing; any subsequent changes to the original mailing won’t be reflected in the copies.
CATALOGS (IN PROCESS)
The following catalogs are loaded into the system and should be available either as rep mailings or in the Available Catalogs section shortly.
- HarperCollins Winter 2010 Imprint Catalogs
- Ingram Publisher Services Winter 2010
- Microsoft Press (full title catalog including backlist)
- Disney Winter 2010 Catalog
Let me know if you’d like an email notification when the catalogs are up and available.
Please email me or edelweiss@abovethetreeline.com if you have any problems or questions.
Best regards,
John
