We Have a Winner!

Introducing Collections
Publishers - You really want to check out our new feature called Collections.  This allows you to create your own title groupings very much like catalogs within Edelweiss and share with others.  Many of you have asked for this, and once again we listened.  See the info on this exciting new feature further along in the email.

New Features: Collections
FeatureLast week, we made a big addition to the ways that publisher users can browse and use catalogs. You will notice that now within the Browse tab, there are now 'sub-tabs' for Our Catalogs, All Catalogs, and Collections. The default is Our Catalogs, which your company's catalog and this area is exactly the same as the prior main browse page. However, if you go to All Catalogs you can now browse other publishers' catalogs.

The third tab, Collections is a new feature whereby publisher users can build their own list of titles (collections) than can behave just like a catalog. Once you have created a collection, you can mark it up, share it, etc. This is particularly useful for publishers with lots of catalogs, and for reps working with specialty accounts, or really anyone that wants to build their own list of titles. Read about how to use this feature here.

We know that you have seen GeoSearch by now, right?  We've received positive feedback for this new feature that allows you to search for titles and authors based on geographic criteria.  Starting in this email, we'll be adding a link to newly found title matches in your area based on the city and state we have listed for your organization and a default radius in miles that we've assigned.

Scroll down to the last section of this email to see your results for this week.

We hope this new customized weekly listing, along with our usual new catalog and drop-ins listings, will be helpful for you.  If you don't have any results, it may be that we don't have a city and state captured for you in our system.  You also won't receive GeoSearch updates if you are not registered for Edelweiss under the email address where you receive this weekly email update.

We can customize the location and radius by user if you'd rather not have your organization's default settings.  We can also update your city/state if it is missing.  Email geosearch@abovethetreeline.com to request configuration changes or if you have any questions or problems.

New Features: Ordering Enhancements for Readers and Publishers
We've added a few enhancements to make ordering via Edelweiss even easier for both retailers and publishers.  These are items that have been requested by a number of users, so we hope you like them!
Publishers

Rep Order Enhancements:  We've just rolled out several key new features for reps that will help you more effectively manage your accounts' orders in Edelweiss, particularly when it comes to ordering displays/pack items, related products, and other backlist that doesn't happen to be listed in Edelweiss.
 
  • Add a Line Item to your account's order on your Export Preview screen.   
  • Quickly access all Related Products on the Export Preview screen by clicking on the red flag (blossom).
  • New "Rep Override" unit field that can be added to any custom order export. Edit the order quantity for that title on your version of your account's order without updating their order.  Perfect for adjusting displays for the publisher order without affecting retailer view of their order.
  • New "Order Form" Download Format available to all reps.  This export format includes the most commonly used fields and was designed so reps no longer have to create their own custom export to download their accounts' orders.      
Readers and Retailers

Easy accessibility to Related Products on the Export Preview Screen:  Retailers also now have the same quick access as reps do to all Related Products that exist in Edelweiss for the titles already in their order.  Click the red flag () next to any title to expand your view of these related products and confirm whether they're already in your order, or Add them to it if you need to.

Add/Remove Order Line Items:   We've heard this request from several of you:  wishing you could more easily add and delete line items to an existing order. Ask, and you shall receive!  Now you can more efficiently delete individual order records, as well as add any title that's in Edelweiss (or simply in print!) to your order directly on the export preview screen.  Learn more about this added functionality in the Readers/Retailers Help article on Editing Orders.

Some great new catalogs posted over the past week, including the first batch of Perseus catalogs for Fall 2010.  We also have some mass and manga from Hachette, and a Christian-interest compilation from Penguin/Putnam.

Also, we had a handful of drop-ins and these are listed below.

Creating a Treeline Watch List
with Edelweiss Titles
 
This week, we wanted to pass along a handy tip for our Treeline stores who use Edelweiss.  Did you know that you can copy a list of ISBNs from Edelweiss and paste them directly into one of your Treeline Watch Lists?  Then you'll have access to those titles on most feature screens in Treeline Analytics, including Top Not Yet Released, where you can track your marketplace ordering stats.   
 
  • First, create a Watch List in Treeline
  • In Edelweiss, create an Excel list of all of the ISBNs you want to add to that Watch List.  If your order export file is already in Excel, you can simply use that.  Or, if the titles are not in any one order ~ for instance, if they're in a single catalog, or if you've tagged a bunch of future marketing titles, bring them up so they appear together in a single List View, select them all, and under the Actions Menu, Export them into an Excel-based order format; iPage is a very basic one that's available to everyone.
  • Then copy all of the ISBNs from that Excel list and paste them into the Add Titles (to a Watch List) box.
  • To access that Watch List from other Treeline screens, click on the Filter? No link on the main Watch List page to make that Watch List Filter = "Yes".

Last week was relatively quiet in terms of new catalogs and drop-ins.  Penguin posted a compilation catalog of BFYR for the upcoming summer months and there were a handful of drop-ins.

If you have an iPad (or are considering getting one), we wanted to let you know that Edelweiss works great on it and some users (see item below) have found it to be a great way to experience Edelweiss.  If you have any questions, let us know.

To use Edelweiss on iPad, open a Safari session and go to the normal URL (http://edelweiss.abovethetreeline.com/).  You can add an icon to your iPad home screen by using the "+" control at the top of the browser window and selecting "Add to Home Screen."

We noticed early on that Edelweiss looked great and worked fine in Safari on the iPad.  In fact, we used iPads to do quite a few demos at BookExpo, but we were really pleased to see these tweets from a recent Random House sales call on Wendy Hudson of Nantucket Bookworks by über-reps Ann Kingman and Michael Kindness.  As a side note, if you love books and haven't checked out Ann and Michael's popular blog, Books on the Nightstand, you don't know what you're missing!  Thanks, guys, for giving the Edelweiss on iPad a whirl.  We're glad you liked it.

This week, we have new catalogs from Cambridge University Press, Marvel Entertainment (Hachette), Harper Collins (Mass), O'Reilly & Partners (IPS), and Penguin.

A few reminders:

Give our new GeoSearch feature a whirl (screenshot).  It has been getting a fair amount of attention and we're really pleased with it.  If you are a registered user (you are, right?) then just click on the tab labeled "GeoSearch", enter a city/state or school, and "Map It".

Finally, there are a few days left to check out Books@BEA and see the titles featured by over 300 exhibitors at this year's show.  The catalog is set to be turned off after Friday, June 11.  If you've created any tags or orders on these titles, no worries - these will be preserved.

We're back from a great BookExpo America show in NYC.  Our booth was hopping and we enjoyed seeing and meeting booksellers, publishers, and librarians from across the country.  We came away with a couple of great new additions to Edelweiss that we'll be announcing soon.

If you didn't have a chance to check out Books@BEA, the catalog is still up and available until a week from Friday (June 11), so take a look at what forthcoming titles exhibitors at this year's show chose to highlight.

This week, we have new catalogs from Georgetown University Press, Nolo, Penguin, and Random House (Mass).  Penguin included a catalog of 75 titles in honor of its special birthday on July 30, 2010. See Penguin's blog posting about their upcoming 75th anniversary for more information about the history of this amazing publisher and their celebration plans.

We also have our usual list of drop-ins for your convenience.

Finally, we've implemented our new GeoSearch feature.  See the item below for more information on this new way to search for titles and authors of local interest.  We're excited about it and think many of you will be, too.

GeoSearch: Feature Overview

Below is an screenshot of GeoSearch.  Click on the image for a clearer and full-sized view.  GeoSearch allows catalog browsers to set a location and find titles connected to locations within a specified radius.  Right now, the location relationships are compiled using the author biography information.  Users can search for titles by authors connected to locations by virtue of their personal histories (where they live, where they were born, where they were raised) or based on the college or university that they attended or have worked at.  Email us at edelweiss@abovethetreeline.com with questions or suggestions.

Edelweiss GeoSearch
  • Upper right controls used to set address, radius, and filter conditions.  In the example, the address is set to "Ann Arbor, MI" and the radius is set to 25 miles.  The user can also choose to include cities, schools (colleges and universities), or both.
    •
  • A map with markers (including number of matches) is displayed at top left just next to the corresponding list of matching cities and states.  The list is sorted by order of proximity to the address.  As you can see in the list, one title is connected to Canton, MI which is 12.8 miles from Ann Arbor.
    •
  • A list of titles with basic info and cover images is directly below the map and search criteria.  Multiple sort options are available.  The text within the author biography that triggered the match is highlighted in yellow.
    •
  • The type of match (or "Relevance") is indicated in the block of title info just to the right of the cover image thumbnail.  Top title in the example is "T is for Tokyo".  The author's childhood home was Ann Arbor, MI as provided by the author biography.
    •
  • Filters can be applied to find titles of particular genres, pubdates, formats, publishers, or other standard Edelweiss filter criteria.
    •
  • User can use the check box for each title to create a running list for further use and review in the full Edelweiss List View.

Finally, if for nothing else, be sure to come by and get your Edelweiss lanyard.  They have the Edelweiss logo on a white background and they're printed on both sides.

The lanyard is a great way to show your support for Edelweiss (and it comes in handy.)  We'll also see what we can do to make these available for those of you attending events and conferences on Tuesday.
